After getting a new job in Sheffield I finally decided it was about time I learnt how to drive. I had had lessons previously but still didn't feel completely confident in the car. Phil's positive feedback and calm attitude helped by giving me confidence that I was doing it right and taking me back to basics with things like reversing which I had always struggled with.

Why I would recommend Phil:

• Easy to talk to which makes you enjoy the lessons as you feel relaxed and at ease - it was like I was driving with one of my friends in the car.
• You are in control of what you do in your lesson, Phil likes students to have a say in what they want to get out of the lesson.
• Manoeuvres and reversing are taught by 'feel' and 'trial and error' so you really get to know where the car is and how to control it rather than focussing on when to turn the steering wheel at certain 'markers' on the car (as with previous instructors).
• Driving lessons are about independent driving and not just 'how to pass your test'. He explains why you should do things, so you get a better understanding of driving and what to do in different scenarios on the roads (and hills in Sheffield!!).
