I came to Phil having had 3 previous driving instructors. As a learner driver it is difficult to determine whether your first instructor is in fact good at what they do as you have no prior knowledge, you must trust that they know their stuff. Phil is fantastic. He stood out from my previous instructors because he is patient, likes a laugh at times and never gets angry or annoyed. He is also very trustworthy. I once wrote a check out for more than I owed him by mistake and rather than taking it anyway he double checked how many hours I owed and gave me back the surplus. Furthermore he ensures that you know what you're doing and more importantly WHY you're doing it. His favorite question when I first started lessons is 'why?'. Why check your left mirror when turning left? Why check your blind spot before moving across/off? etc. It is easy to teach people the protocols of driving i.e: Mirror, Signal, and Maneuver which I'd grasped before meeting Phil but in my experience, Phil has been the only one who looks at the whole picture. I believe this makes you a safer, more conscientious driver, a mind-set which stays with you even after passing your test.
